Stomach weight loss is a challenge for most people because your stomach is designed to store fat well. It is one area, too, that is not very receptive to toning. You could have fat arms and legs, but if you just start toning them, they will firm right up. Not so with the stomach. You must do cardio and lots of it. Toning alone will, indeed, give you great abs but no one will be able to see them without cardio because the fat will remain and hide your muscles.
The first place to begin and the most constant thing to maintain is your cardio exercise. Without cardio, your stomach will remain completely unchanged. Running, dancing, and biking are great ways to do this. Remember that it is the intensity of the cardio work out, not the length. Make sure you sweat and get your heart pumping. Let yourself be out of breath.
Simple lifestyle changes can really add up. If you take the elevator all the time, take the stairs. If you drive to the store down the block, just walk there. Walk your dog more frequently. Use an exercise bike while you read a book or watch television. Stand instead of sit whenever you possibly can. Even vacuuming or washing the dishes burns more calories than just sitting around. Weight training is increasingly recommended as a fat-busting tool because some experts say extra muscle burns more energy than body fat at rest, so if you have more muscle and have a higher muscle to fat ratio than before, then you should burn extra fat and more stored fat as a result. This is true and has been found in metabolic studies. However, the differences are not that much; perhaps less than a few tens of calories per day for each pound of muscle increased, for most people.
Does it mean you shouldn’t worry about weight training? Certainly not, because weight training has many other benefits for health and performance, not the least of which is extra muscle. It’s just that this advantage has been somewhat overstated and we need to get this fat burning thing, right in order to develop the best weight loss and performance programs.
Getting the after burn. Okay, so more muscle does not provide that much advantage, but what about the after burn? The ‘after burn’, or the amount of energy you use after you stop exercising, has been promoted as an important slimming idea. If you can get after burn, which is really another way of saying your metabolism increases for several hours or longer after a particular workout, then that?s a bonus because you burn fat during the exercise and even after you cease as well. Will the fun ever stop! Read more...

By now, everybody is aware of the huge problem obesity has become in western civilization. Over sixty percent of adult Americans are fat. And with being fat comes and endless list of other problems, too numerous to go into detail in this short article. Suffice it to say that being fat causes a lot more problems than having to shop at the big and tall store.
People weren’t always overweight. A hundred years ago, people were naturally slim, and reasonably fit. Maybe a small percentage of the population had a trouble with weight, but it was much more rare back then that it is now.
Of course, on obvious reason is the amount of physical exercise that most of us get. Back in the day, people had to work pretty hard just to make a living. There was no need for gyms or fitness clubs. Today, most of us can make a living without ever breaking a sweat.
Another thing that has changed is the kind of food we eat. A couple generations ago, people cooked every day, bought fresh food from local farmers, and only ate out once in a great while. Even when people went out to eat the food was generally prepared the same way. Grown locally without any preservatives or chemicals. Nothing frozen or mass produced Read more...

Are you overweight? Do you struggle when you button your pants every morning? Don’t worry, you are in good company. Most of adult Americans today are overweight, or have some kind of weight problem.
Not to mention all the other health problems that come along with being overweight. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a host other problems which can be directly related to weight issues.
So why are we so fat? Were Americans always fat or is it just a recent thing? If you took a look back a hundred years or so, you’d notice that very few people were fat back then. What was different?
First of all, peoples lifestyles were much different back then. People had much more active lives. Most people had to work hard physical labor to make a living. Today most people sit at a desk.
If most of us are lucky, and are blessed with superhuman motivation, we go to the gym once or twice a week. The rest of us get little, if any, exercise.
The second, and much more complicated reason is that the food we eat today is vastly different than the food we ate a hundred years ago. Before, most of the food people at was very fresh, and grown locally. Read more...

Many, if not most adults today are overweight or clinically obese. Of course, everybody has a different idea of what it means to be overweight. But if you would like to lose just a couple of pounds, or even a hundred pounds or more, this article is for you.
The two biggest things you can do to not only effectively lose weight, but also keep it off, is to eat less, and exercise more. That seems obvious, but why are so many people still overweight?
One main reason is that most people look at losing weight as something they need to do, like remodeling their house, or finishing a college degree. With this mindset, it’s no wonder the weight always seems to come back. Without an underlying change in lifestyle, any fix is bound to be temporary.
The secret then is to incorporate proper diet and exercise into your daily life. And not only to incorporate them into your daily life, but to do so in a way that makes them easy and automatic.
Everybody’s dream is to lose all the weight in a couple weeks with a magic pill, but is that really possible? Is that really good for your health? It might be better to lose weight slowly. Read more...
