In dentistry, a bite is described as the way the top and lower rows of teeth are aligned when they are set against each other. Crookedness in a person’s bite calls for the aid of an orthodontist to help fix this. Bite irregularity does not look good and it can also create issues in chewing and speaking, not to mention also cause tooth loss and gum disorders.
Dental irregularities are grouped according to category. Some of the categories are identified below.
1. Open bite. When the upper and lower rows of the teeth do not meet when a person bites down, this is called an open bite. The lower teeth puts out more pressure that the top one. If there is an open bite, the person may wear out the back teeth prematurely because chewing exerts more force on the lower row of teeth.
2. Cross bite. With this type of irregularity, the upper row of the teeth is set out (or in) the bottom row. This is the type of crookedness that is usually treated by orthodontists considering that the condition makes it difficult for a person to chew properly. Read more...

Plenty of us wish for straight teeth because of the improvement it brings to how we look. Nonetheless, there are other incentives that straight teeth can share to us apart from making us look beautiful.
Orthodontists do not assist people have straight teeth only because they want these people’s looks to improve; dental practitioners do it to offer people the chance to have a better quality of life.
For starters, straight teeth need a lower degree of energy in keeping them clean. Keeping crooked and crowded teeth clean can be a very tedious job, considering that it involves a certain degree of tenacity to brush and floss misaligned teeth – some parts are very inaccessible. The crowding and crookedness can also become the precursor to potential tooth decay and gum problems. In extreme cases, teeth irregularities left on their own can lead to tooth loss.

Dental practitioners advise us to brush and floss our teeth on a regular basis. Brushing and flossing are important in keeping our teeth and gums healthy and also in developing our self-discipline. Yet, brushing and flossing alone do not guarantee that teeth dilemmas will not occur in the future. There are several factors involved why we still have dental health problems even if we brush and floss regularly. The volume of saliva in our mouth, physiological changes in our body, and our diet can also impact the overall health of our teeth.
We must do other things apart from brushing and flossing in order to preserve our dental health.
Consulting a dentist to create the best oral health care routine is the primary step in preserving dental health. For example, if a person is taking medication that dries out the mouth, the dentist could recommend supplements, such as fluoride, to preserve the health of the teeth. Pregnant women must also visit their dental practitioner to find out ways to maintain their dental health in a period when their bodies are undergoing so much physical change.
Sugar supplies nourishment to bacteria that cause plaque. Lessening our intake of sweet foods can do so much in preserving dental health. Read more...

There are different forms of teeth irregularities, the most common being crookedness, uneven spacing, minor overcrowding, and protrusions. A number of people get used to their dental irregularities as time passes.
Dental issues can cause someone to lose self-confidence. Oftentimes people with dental misalignments place a hand over their mouths when they speak, and they seldom smile in order to conceal their imperfection. In addition, dental misalignment can affect how a person chews, making it necessary for the person to be choosy about his or her food intake.
Dental flaws are usually inherited from parents. Just the same, heredity is not the exclusive cause of dental irregularities. Outside elements may also come into play. Some of these causes are the following:
Trauma – Mishaps and roughhousing during childhood can cause someone to fracture or loose their teeth. Fractured teeth could be replaced, which may completely join to the bone around it. The abnormal bonding of the tooth to bone is called ankylosis, and it is one of the reasons that kids grow up with dental alignment issues.
Thumb sucking or pacifier use – When children utilize pacifiers or suck their thumbs for a longer time than what is normal, the habit could cause a noticeable protrusion of the top row of teeth over the lower row. Read more...

My electric toothbrush is what I use at home. When I am away from home I pack my manual toothbrush. Whichever I use I make sure I brush well. I do not want a tooth problem and I do not like a lecture from my hygienist. Some advantages manual and electric toothbrushes have may assist in your decision on which to use.
The less expensive choice of course is the regular old fashioned manual toothbrush. If finances are an issue stick with the traditional brush. If you travel regularly you find the manual one is easier to pack.
You can take the electric toothbrush without the charger if you charge it up and it will run for a few days before needing to be recharged. Of course you can always pack the charger if you like. If you are going to be gone for longer than a week you will need to take your charger with you.
Of course the most crucial part of brushing is not which brush you use but the time you spend brushing. Even if you have an electric toothbursh this does not mean you have done a better job of brushing than if you used a manual toothbrush. Some might think they do not have to brush as often because they use an electric toothbrush. No you still have to brush after meals, in the morning, and before bed. Read more...

ADA statistics confirm that the Baby Boomer generation is dominating the oral healthcare market – in fact, baby boomer numbers will reach as high as 79 million during the career of current dental graduates. This “Senior Tsunami” is changing dentistry. These aging boomers have a very different attitude towards dentistry than did their predecessors. They no longer consider tooth loss an inevitable consequence of aging and are willing to “put their money where their mouth is” if care is available.
Compared to preceding generations, boomers have healthier teeth — largely due to better dental and health care as well as water flouridation. Yet boomers aren’t content to merely keep their teeth. They demand a white, straight, healthy smile to keep a youthful and more attractive appearance. Procedures such as tooth whitening and veneers, as well as other cosmetic treatments, are often requested.
It is important to remember that a great deal more than mere appearance is at stake. An array of complex conditions become more common with advancing age, and failure to maintain proper dental care can have adverse consequences on overall health. Periodontal, or gum disease is treated quite seriously by today’s dentists because researchers have discovered periodontal pathogens in plaques that have built up within arteries. Research has clearly linked periodontal disease with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and chronic kidney disease. Read more...
